Peripheral Neuropathy

Picture
What is Peripheral Neuropathy?
Small fiber peripheral neuropathy is a disorder that impairs the smaller nerves under the skin causing sensory changes. The symptoms typically start at the toes or fingertips and gradually move up the legs or arms. Most people describe the sensory loss as a burning, tingling numbness, with occasional sharp pains. Some people have intense sensitivity, and some people have hardly any feeling. The symptoms may worsen at night, causing the disorder known as Restless Leg Syndrome.

What causes PN?
There are several causes, and many PN sufferers have more than one. Many others have PN from unknown causes. The most common known cause of PN is type 2 diabetes. We also see many patients whose PN was a prescription medication side effect.

How come I’ve heard there is no treatment that works?PN can be a disheartening diagnosis to many, because it is progressive and in the past has been very difficult to treat with success. There is no drug or surgery that can be used to actually improve it, so normally painkillers are prescribed to mask the symptoms, but of course these can do nothing for the numbness. The only treatments that actually work to reverse symptoms are very specific intensive therapies which require a time commitment most physicians aren’t able to make. At our office, we specialize in therapy, and we are willing to take the time your condition warrants.

What if I’ve already tried chiropractic?
This neuropathy therapy is not chiropractic treatment. DR. chalfant USES STATE OF THE ART TECHNOLOGY in order to help you improve. At our office you will have the option of combining your neuropathy treatment with chiropractic treatment IF NEEDED, but the neuropathy treatment itself does not involve traditional chiropractic adjustments.

What is the neuropathy treatment?
The core of the treatment is a HOLISTIC one It is non-invasive and drug free, and works by boosting your body’s natural healing capabilities. In addition, you will be receiving multiple therapies known to increase balance, improve the brain-body connection, and restore normal circulation and nerve function to the extremities. Based on your personal situation, you may also receive customized nutritional or exercise plans.

What kinds of effects can be achieved through the Neuropathy treatment?
people who undergo the treatment experience excellent results with one or more of the following: Reduced pain and cramps, reduced tingling and numbness, reduced cold or burning sensations, improved balance and coordination, lowered dependency on medications, improved sleep, increased range of motion, increased blood flow to the extremities, and decreased muscle spasm. An important side benefit to the treatment is that it reduces the risk of falls significantly by improving balance and position awareness of the feet.

Why do I need an exam if I’ve already been diagnosed with pN?
We examine you to determine the severity of your condition. Neuropathy is not black and white, but is a progressive disease which passes through many indistinct stages. Based on your exam results, we can tell you if you would be a good candidate for the neuropathy treatment. We also do the exam to rule out other factors which may be contributing to abnormal sensations. The exam is non-invasive and safe. We want to make sure nothing was missed.

How long will this take, and how much does it cost?
The answer depends on the severity of your condition, and sometimes on the cause of the condition. The amount of treatment people need varies even within similar levels of severity. We will be able to tell you more after your exam, but the amount of therapy you will personally need varies on many unknown factors, and can be unpredictable. What we can promise you is this: your condition will be monitored throughout your course of care, and we will work with you to help you make decisions about your care from an informed, knowledgeable standpoint. and we will never perform or recommend anything that we don’t think is necessary to getting the results you want.
